If our application is approved by Mid Sussex District Council for our battery storage hub development, the battery technology which will be used on site will allow for the storage of energy for later use at periods of high demand. This is important in view of our increased utilisation of clean energy sources in the fight against climate change, which are by their nature intermittent.
The proposed development will be a flagship sustainable development, designed in a way that illustrates how battery energy storage facilities of this nature can be sensitively located within the rural landscape, offering environmental, economic and social benefits.
1) Development of energy storage technology suitably located to connect to the National Grid, thereby providing essential security to the energy network and helping to support the transition towards Net Zero;
2) Contribution towards achieving a consistent and reliable supply of energy, which is essential for business confidence and economic growth;
3) Allocation of the southern section of the site for significant biodiversity enhancement and new habitat creation, resulting in a 11,866% increase in green infrastructure and 34.5% increase in habitat net gain;
4) Provision of a new publicly accessible perimeter walking route around the entire site, which be particularly beneficial to pedestrians walking along Wineham Lane, as there is currently no public footpath along the site boundary;
5) Enhancements to rainwater attenuation to reduce flood risk and further support wildlife habitat;
6) Employment opportunities during construction and operational phases.
